AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

For the pilot, we are only casting about 30 individuals: Members of the Smith family, Local preachers, neighbors, a few women, a couple youth, and about a dozen men. Most are supporting roles.

Please send us 3 videos in total

  • Video #3: Surprise Reaction

VIDEO #1: Introduction

Instructions:

1. Please introduce yourself. Tell us your name, where you live, any performing experience you have, and why you’d like to be part of The Man Who Saw Heaven.

VIDEO #2: Monologue

Instructions:

1. Please memorize the following lines. This scene takes place on the Smith farm as you stack wood with Joseph. Joseph has just approached you to help you stack wood.

2. Please film yourself delivering this monologue as if you were being filmed on set. Place your phone/camera propped up or on a tripod so that both of your hands are free. Do not look into the camera.

[YOU] Help?

That’s a bold word from someone who won the wood-splitting contest.

[JOSEPH]
I didn’t make the rules.

[YOU]
You split the logs clean in two and strutted like a rooster.
Winner splits.

Loser stacks.

You lift another log pointedly.

[YOU]
And here I am, paying for my pride.

Joseph laughs.

[JOSEPH]

I can stack anyway.

[YOU]
If Pa sees you stacking, he’ll think the world’s ended.

You both stack wood. Silent for a few moments.

[JOSEPH]
I want to ask you something.

You haven’t been baptized, right?

[YOU]

No, I haven’t.

You continue to stack wood.

Not because I don’t care—
Actually… (pause)
I don’t know why.
(pause)

If you’re going to give yourself to God,
you ought to know who you’re giving yourself to, ya know?

VIDEO #3: Surprise Reaction

Instructions:

  1. Please memorize these short lines.
  2. Place your phone/camera propped up or on a tripod.
  3. From across the room, walk toward the camera. After a few steps, stop, and turn as if Joseph has called out your name, and then tells you some unexpected news. Then say the following:

Joseph, hold on, slow down! What happened?
You’re kidding! Are you sure?
Come on – take me there. Let’s go!
